Group Therapy

In a group setting, you can connect with individuals who understand your journey and can provide a unique perspective. Group therapy challenges you to step out of your comfort zone, take risks, and experiment with new behaviors in a safe and supportive environment. This gives you the opportunity to grow and increase your self-confidence in a safe place.

Benefits of Group Therapy

Shared Support

Interacting with others who have similar experiences creates a sense of belonging and validation. Knowing that you are not alone can bring comfort and strength.

Multiple Perspectives

Group members offer diverse viewpoints and insights, providing you with fresh perspectives and alternative solutions to your challenges.

Feedback and Support

Group members provide constructive feedback, encouragement, and support, fostering personal development and resilience.

Increased Self Awareness

Through interactions with others, you can gain a deeper understanding of yourself, your patterns of behavior, and the impact you have on others which can lead to personal growth.

Skill Development

Group counseling provides a platform to develop essential skills, such as effective communication, active listening, empathy, and self-expression. These skills can positively impact both your personal and professional relationships.

Normalization

Group counseling helps you realize that your struggles and concerns are shared by others with similar experiences and feelings. This helps normalize your experiences and reducing feelings of isolation.

Group Therapy FAQs

  • I meet with group clients from my base in Philadelphia virtually over a secure video chat. My group clients are from all over Pennsylvania.

  • All group sessions are currently being conducted via secure, HIPAA-compliant video platforms. The decision of whether to seek group therapy via in-person sessions or virtually is a personal one with pro’s and con’s for each option. Read the blog post about Online vs. In-Person Therapy for more information.

  • Group therapy cost varies depending on the group.

Payment is due at the time of service via credit/debit card or HSA card. A card on file is required and there is a $75 fee for missed appointments or late cancellations.

Read the blog post about Insurance vs. Private Pay for more information.

  • We prefer to work in small groups so some groups may have 4 people while others have the capacity for up to 10.

  • Group therapy can be very powerful for some of the same reasons as relationship therapy but there are some other reasons why it’s a great option, too:

    • It allows for people to connect and it is often easier to do so than with loved ones because there is less baggage.

    • Shame is reduced through identification with others and sharing in a vulnerable way to an accepting group.
